“Opuntia ficus-indica (الصبّار), commonly known as the prickly pear in Palestine, is a cactus plant recognized for its flat green pads and seasonal yellow flowers. Its Arabic name, sabr, also means patience, a reflection of the plant’s ability to withstand long periods of drought and hardship. Its presence across the landscape has come to represent endurance, rootedness, and quiet strength.”

The back of the t-shirt features a historical botanical illustration of the sabra cactus. Below the graphic is the Latin name of the species.

The illustration is sourced from an 1876 botanical book titled Wild Flowers of the Holy Land, a collection of artwork documenting native Palestinian flora.
